Figurehead
The figurehead, measuring 970mm x 750mm x 520mm was acquired in August 2012 by the Llŷn Maritime & Heritage Museum from the Seiont II Maritime Museum in Caernarfon which was closing down. It had been the property of the Caernarfon Museum for many years but nothing was known of its history. We have managed to ascertain from Richard Hunter, a figurehead historian that this “billet” figurehead is of pre-1870 American origin. Several sources suggest it is from the wreck of the Governor Fenner (built 1827, Swanzey, Mass. and named after a Governor of Rhode Island of the time.
