A digital and physical exhibition following the journey of the young people of the Llŷn Peninsula over the course of a year, as they start their life at sea, our new maritime heritage.
Making Waves/ Hwylio 'Mlaen is a digital and physical exhibition (June 3-30th 2016) following the journey of the young people of the Llŷn Peninsula over the course of a year (project undertaken from February 2015-Febuary 2016), as they start their life at sea, our new maritime heritage. The project is aimed to showcase the living maritime culture and future maritime heritage of the area. The images, videos and stories recorded by the local young people, will not only highlight the diverse opportunities for maritime careers both locally and internationally, but also become a record of the creation of the maritime heritage of the present for the future.
This innovative exhibition was developed and managed by one of the museum's young trustees and committee members, Jamie Davies, aged 24 from Nefyn. It was born out of the recognition that too often museum exhibitions are focused on the past and not the future. This is especially true of maritime museums. This limitation coupled with the challenges of engaging with a youth audience, presented an opportunity for a museum project and exhibition.
Over 200 photographs were shared during the project, the full digital exhibition can be viewed below:

Rediscovering the Cyprian exhibition (Llŷn Coastal Festival 2013)
Between August 8-22 2013, Llŷn Maritime Museum and Heritage Centre held an exhibition at our Summer Centre, Y Groes, Nefyn about the famous shipwreck SS Cyprian which sank off Penrhyn Cwmistir, Edern in October 1881. The wreck is famous for the act of heroism by the Captain, John Alexander Strachan, who died whilst saving a young stowaway, John William Klahn, from the wreck.
‘Rediscovering the Cyprian’ provided the most comprehensive exhibition to date, including both artefacts and documentation, and new research.
